Are the DJRE and INIF ETFs worth watching in May?

It’s time to run a ruler over SPDR Dow Jones Global Select Real Estate Fund ETF (ASX: DJRE) and InvestSMART Intelligent Investor Australian Equity Income Fund (Managed Fund) ETF (ASX: INIF). The ETFs invest in the International shares and Australian shares sectors/industries, respectively.

The SPDR DJRE ETF (ASX:DJRE)

The DJRE ETF by SPDR invests in global shares/securities of listed real estate investment trusts (REITs). Investors can use these property-focused ETFs to get global exposure to a broad basket of trusts and companies exposed to property, including office spaces, commercial rental spaces and construction projects.

According to our most recent data, the DJRE ETF had $495.66 million of money invested. With DJRE’s total funds under management (FUM) figure over $100 million, the ETF meets our team’s minimum investment criteria for FUM levels. As a general rule, our team draws the line at $100 million for ETFs in the International shares sector because we believe that, relative to smaller ETFs, achieving this amount of FUM lowers the chance that the ETF issuer will close the ETF.

InvestSMART INIF ETF (ASX:INIF)

The Intelligent Investor INIF Fund is an actively managed ETF, with a focus on a research-led, value investing approach. This fund also focuses on providing investors with exposure to companies with a sustainable income yield.

With our numbers for December 2021, INIF’s FUM stood at $77.34 million. Given it has less than $100 million invested, ask yourself (or your adviser) if the ETF is still too small (and if you should wait to buy into it). If you’re concerned the ETF might not be established enough, compare it alongside one of the other Active ETF (e.g. ETMF) sector ETFs, using our full list of ETFs.

A look at the INIF ETF fee load?

InvestSMART, the ETF issuer, charges a yearly management fee of 0.0097 for the INIF ETF. Meaning, if you invest $2,000 for a full year from now you can expect to pay a management fee of around $19.40.

The management fee is above the average for all ETFs on our list of ASX ETFs, but keep in mind the ETF may be able to justify the higher price tag with superior performance over time.
