Registry Direct is a smaller Australian share registry that's relatively new on the scene, having been founded in 2014.
Similarly to industry heavyweights Computershare and Link, Registry Direct is a public company listed on the ASX under the ticker code RD1. However, it has a much smaller market capitalisation compared to its peers.
A share registry is an organisation that helps companies manage their list (or 'registry') of shareholders.
Typical responsibilities of a share registry include:
If you invest in an ETF (or share) which uses Registry Direct, you'll need to create an account in order to participate in a dividend reinvestment plan (if available), access your transaction history, update your personal information, and complete other corporate actions.
If you have multiple shareholdings that use Registry Direct, you'll be able to access all of them with the one account.
You can register for a Registry Direct account here. Be sure to have your shareholder reference number (SRN) or holder identification number (HIN) at the ready -- this is often located at the top right corner of your holding statement. Alternatively, you can find this number by logging into your online share broking account or by contacting your broker.
Right now, there are 200+ ETFs on the ASX. Then there are index funds. Hundreds of managed funds. LICs. REITs. And everything in between. Wouldn’t it be nice to make ONE investment and build the strong Core of your portfolio — with just one click?
